Anesthesia

Anesthesia, a relatively new medical specialization, has witnessed dramatic developments in recent years.
Whereas in the 1960s the hospital’s anesthesiologist was still seen as someone very special, no patient nowadays is operated without the qualified care of this specialized physician.
The anesthesiologist’s job is to ensure that the patient feels no pain during his/her operation and to guarantee that all the vital body functions are maintained.
To accomplish this, state-of-the-art technology and safe medications are used. These perfected methods allow us nowadays to operate, even on older or very ill patients, without any problems. Local anesthesia techniques achieve a state of no pain while preserving consciousness.

Intensive care medicine

Very ill or seriously injured patients whose recovery is sometimes rather long characterize the field of intensive care medicine.
Often misleadingly seen as "equipment and device medicine", patients whose vital or organ functions have been seriously affected are monitored and treated here. However, our equipment is not what keeps our patients alive, but the people who make decisions and monitor and care for them.
The physicians in the Department of Anesthesia are particularly qualified for these tasks; as a team treating the respective basic ailment together with the medical colleague and nursing staff in charge, our patients’ healing process is closely followed here.

Pain therapy

Apart from anesthesia and intensive care medicine, pain therapy has, in the meantime, become the third pillar of our specialization. It not only treats those patients who are in pain after an operation, but also focuses primarily on those individuals who suffer from a pain illness. One speaks of a pain illness when the pain has become independent and lost its useful function of a conductive and warning signal.

A wide spectrum of targeted therapy and diagnoses, coupled with the professional and personalized care of the anesthesiologist, characterize the image of inpatient and ambulatory image of pain therapy.
